Overview of the Stukent Social Media Simternship

The Stukent social media Simternship is a simulation-based course where students act as a social media coordinator and manager for the fictional company Buhi Supply Co. It is a virtual job experience where you can make real marketing decisions and choices that you think would be best for the company strategy. It is a realistic space to test different strategies and adapt to the social media world and environment.

During the experience students are expected to create social media posts (both organic and paid), manage a budget, analyze results to improve performance, and interact with the customers and influencers. There are 12 rounds or weeks throughout the entire process. You are able to choose which platforms to post on and what would work better for what goals you are trying to reach. It is also important to focus on budgeting while also targeting the correct audience.

One of the most notable tasks to complete during the Simternship is to create. In creating posts, it is necessary to write captions and select videos and images to go along with the posts. For it to make sense it is important for the captions to fit and become unique to whatever images and videos you decide to select. While running the campaigns there is a focus on both organic posts which is free content and paid ads which are budget-based. At the end of each round it is important to look over the results. The three main categories to focus on are engagement rate, revenue, conversions and audience response. It was helpful to receive feedback and comments after each round.

Overall, I believe the Simternship was a helpful experience. Although at times it was tough and even seemed repetitive at times, it was a valuable experience where I learned how many aspects go into a successful social media campaign. People think it is easy to simply post pictures and captions to a company's social media page. Instead, social media strategy is much more complex.
