My Week Overview

Image
Having a consistent schedule or routine is important. But sometimes that routine can get interrupted by different events that come up last minute. It can be easy to get stressed out if something comes up or creates a basic routine to go out of order. But I have learned especially through my freshman year of college to learn how to go with the flow and be in the moment. Typically during my days I like to stay in somewhat of a routine based on what classes I have. My Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I have a large break from 10am to 2pm. I like to take this time to relax if I need it (especially on Mondays) then head over to Macintosh to grab lunch and finally go to the library to get work done. I try not to spend a large amount of time in my dorm because it will just make me get unmotivated when I need to be doing homework or assignments. I will usually just spend about an hour to hour and a half relaxing in my dorm and then head to get lunch. I meet up with a couple friends in the ...

My Visions and Boards with Pinterest

Image
I have always had great experiences with Pinterest. It is a great app to find a variety of inspiration. I also love it because it is an escape from all the traditional social media platforms. It does not have news accounts shoving information down your throat or an influencer telling you why to try a new product. It simply shows you what you might be interested in and allows you to scroll through without much thought.  I have so many boards on my account where I am able to organize all of my saved pins into categories. My largest board is titled "Nails". I am always saving different designs because even when I am just mindlessly scrolling and looking for anything specific a few nail pictures will typically catch my eye so I quickly save them in case I want to use it in the future. It is interesting to look through that board because I have been saving pins for years. It is noticeable what season it was when I saved each of them because it will go from a section of lighter col...

Being left on "opened" causing anxiety?

Image
One of the most notable Snapchat features is how you are able to see if your snap, video, or chat has been "opened" or not. It is a helpful feature but in today's world has probably resulted in more anxiety than helpfulness. Making this feature visible to users can create anxiety and fear for people who are left on "opened" and not responded to immediately.  When users notice their Snapchat was "opened" it typically makes people feel like they are being ignored if it is not immediately followed with a reply. In a way this describes how our generation is affected by social media perfectly. Social media has caused us to need a response or clarification with anything through social media platforms. It shows how these platforms track so much of our online movement. Along with the anxiety that can be caused from the feature there are also some unspoken rules. It makes users feel pressure to have an expected response time after reading or "opening...

A great refresh and now back to work

Image
Spring break could not have come soon enough. By the time I made it into the last week before break I was exhausted and desperately needed time away from school. Once I finished my last class on Thursday it was a huge relief as I immediately got into my car to drive home. Although I had a two-hour drive home I was able to listen to my music and it was a very easy drive back.  I returned to campus this past Sunday. At first I was excited to get back here but when I started to realize how much schoolwork and other obligations were already waiting for me I began to get overwhelmed all over again. But I made sure to just enjoy the rest of my Sunday and get settled back into my dorm. Once Monday morning hit I was up and headed to my 8 a.m. class to start off the first day back. I do not enjoy having an early morning class but I will say it has helped me get moving and feeling productive from start to finish of my Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It was a struggle getting through ...

Is the Twitter and X Era Coming to an End?

Image
Honestly if someone asked me why X is beneficial these days I really could not give them a solid answer. I do not think X is useless by any means. Brands and companies can use it to market themselves and it is still a common social media platform where anyone can share their thoughts. But I definitely do not think that it is as effective as it used to be as the social media world has evolved and more apps have been created.  When Twitter was created it was best known for its short-form messaging, real-time updates, hashtag-driven conversations and direct public interaction. But now its name has changed to X and there are so many other apps that provide these features along with many other additional enhancements. I believe that because it has somewhat stayed the same other than the name change is why we have seen it become an app that used to be one of the top-used platforms to not even in the top 10. I will say that the lack of evolvement is definitely not the only reason. T...

Check-In Before Spring Break

Image
It is finally time for spring break! I am so excited for this much needed time off. I decided that this week would feel extremely long when just Monday felt like three days combined into one. Monday and Tuesday were extremely busy for me but now it is just going to classes which is not too difficult. Tuesday I gave my second speech in my presentational speaking class. I was nervous for it because I had been procrastinating working and practicing on it but I noticed I was less nervous to actually do the speech. That is an improvement from my first speech when I was just nervous to speak in front of my class. This speech we were able to have a visual aid which helped. Plus I gave my speech on social media marketing and the effects it has on society so I felt comfortable about what I was talking about. I am happy to say it went pretty well. It was not perfect but I felt like I have made improvements since my first speech about a month ago. Now it is time to just get through classes and ah...
