My First Podcasting Experience!
For my social media class at college we had an assignment where we had to create our own podcast episode with a guest who has experience in the social media and marketing industry. I chose my former dance coach, Nicole Ziska. Nicole was previously the lead marketing director at the mobile dance company, Dance to Evolve and is currently the lead marketing director at Midwest Cheer and Dance Elite Cleveland, a large cheer and dance company in Cleveland, Ohio. It was so inspiring to talk with her about her experiences and advice in the world of social media, marketing and more specifically marketing in the dance industry.
We discussed things such as what she sees is important to look at when it comes to posting content. She made a great point about how there are numerous studios around Midwest so it is important to have content that makes them stand out compared to other competitors. After the podcast I had mentioned to her how great of a point it was because it tied directly into what we are learning in my class about strategy and personal branding. It is important to have something unique to stand out against those competitors to become and maintain successful.
We had a great discussion about how the evolution of social media marketing has been critical for companies in the dance industry as well. She had mentioned that it is important to have the image you want to be portrayed as a company on your social media accounts because so many people get their information from those platforms now. We tied in how professional dancers are also influencers as well, such as the Dancing with the Stars "pros" do a lot on their social media platforms. This has been noticed by dance convention companies where they have been hiring those influencers to work and teach at their conventions as leverage to gain more students.
It truly was such an amazing time talking with Nicole and discussing things we really haven't before. I have known her for a long time and she has had such a huge impact on my life so it was great to chat with her on her thoughts in the crazy world of social media and marketing. As for my first podcast experience, I surprisingly really enjoyed making it. I see why the influencers and celebrities who have popular podcasts have editing teams because that can be hours of work especially for much lengthier episodes. I have newfound respect for all of the editing and podcast teams out there!
