Week of Productivity

"I never have a moment where I have nothing to do." This was the exact line I said to my dad when I was on the phone with him this past week. I have found myself repeating that exact phrase various times in my college career so far. I feel like every time I finish an assignment or task I need to get done for a class or club there is always something else that immediately comes up. It is so easy to get behind as well. If there is even one assignment that I wait to do it just gets thrown into the pile with the other assignments that come up the next day. So when I decided to really push through this week and knock out everything on my to-do list it was a great and accomplishing feeling.

This semester I am taking five classes along with being in a sorority and being the vice president of public relations for the Panhellenic Council. I am very grateful to have those extra involvements on campus but it always keeps me busy. I have a running to-do list I need to get done each day in my notes app on my MacBook which is always open on my screen. This helps me keep track of what I need to get done daily, for each class, and for Panhel or Alpha Xi. Since I have created this halfway through last semester I have realized it is never empty. Every time I delete something once I finish it I realize that five seconds later it gets replaced with something else. Sometimes it can feel like I am getting nothing done. This can get overwhelming at times and I know I am probably not the only college student who feels this way. I find some comfort in knowing this but it still does not help the problem of feeling that it is never-ending.

Well, this past week I did not have too many meetings or events after classes during the week so I was determined to get everything done and do the impossible of clearing my list. With my new job that I started at the beginning of the semester it allows a good portion of time to get work done so I was making sure to stay productive during my shifts. Then, after classes I have been trying not to get sucked into social media and my phone for too long. On Wednesday after classes I got straight to work and did not even look at my phone until about 8:30 at night unless it was to switch up my music or answer important text messages. This honestly felt so nice to not be near my phone and just have time away from it. I was so productive and got everything and a few extra things done. This small win gave me relief going into the weekend and a sense of accomplishment. I do not always let myself feel proud because I am always worried about the next thing. Getting all of it done let me take a step back and realize I did a good job. Oh but do not worry, my to- do list is back to normal with a whole new list of things to get done!

  1. Hello McKenna! I respect you for how busy you are because I know it can be challenging to not have a break. Sometimes, all we need is a break to feel better again and not as stressed out! I admire how involved you are in your academic courses and organizations. I too use the notes app for keeping track of everything. I love it! I have tried Google Calendar and don't click with it. Hopefully this week you can find at least a little minute in your day where you don't have any work to attend to! You got this!

  2. Hi Mckenna! I loved reading this, because sometimes I struggle with being productive, especially in the winter. I liked how you talked about your involvement, and how you balance your classes with them. Thank you for sharing!

  3. McKenna, I totally feel you! Once I got to college I felt like there was always something that I could do. You must be so amazing at balancing all your involvements and schoolwork because you're involved in so many things. Like your notes app, I think if I didn't have my Google Calendar I would be totally lost.
